A copper-bound compound studied for skin regeneration, collagen production, hair follicle health, and wound healing. Covers standard protocol cycles, supporting skin tone, firmness, and early-stage longevity work.

Compound overview

What it is

GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex) is a naturally occurring copper-peptide tripeptide that declines with age. It binds copper ions and delivers them to copper-dependent enzymes involved in collagen and elastin synthesis, antioxidant defence (via superoxide dismutase), and tissue remodelling. It reactivates genes associated with skin regeneration and suppresses genes associated with inflammation and cellular damage — a pattern resembling the gene expression profile of younger tissue.

Collagen and elastin production increases. Skin firmness, hydration, and texture improve. Hair follicle cycling may be supported. Wound healing accelerates. Antioxidant capacity increases via copper enzyme activation. Over a full cycle, users typically report visible improvement in skin quality — texture, tone, and fine line reduction.

Studied outcomes
  • Increased collagen and elastin synthesis in skin fibroblast studies
  • Wound contraction and healing acceleration in clinical studies
  • Hair follicle cycling support and reduction in hair loss in preclinical models
  • Antioxidant enzyme (SOD, catalase) upregulation
  • Gene expression changes toward a younger tissue profile across 4,000+ genes

Suitability

Who it's for

  • Skin regeneration — tone, texture, firmness, fine lines
  • Hair health and follicle support
  • Longevity-focused skin protocols
  • Wound healing acceleration
  • Standard 6–10 week cycles where the 50mg vial is the right volume
Who should avoid it
  • Known copper sensitivity or Wilson disease (copper metabolism disorder)
  • Pregnancy (insufficient data)
  • Those expecting results equivalent to prescription retinoids — GHK-Cu is regenerative, not equivalent in speed to topical retinoids

Dosing guidance

Protocol guidance

Dose
1–2mg per day subcutaneous; topical preparations also studied
Frequency
Once daily
Cycle length
6–12 weeks
Route
Subcutaneous injection (abdomen); topical application studied for skin-only goals
Timing
No strict timing; morning or evening

Safety

Contraindications & cautions

  • Confirm no copper sensitivity or Wilson disease before use
  • Copper accumulation is theoretically possible on very long unmonitored cycles — standard cycles appear safe
  • Topical formulations have a different absorption profile to injectable — confirm your route
